Nino gave me a sewing machine for Christmas 4 or 5 years ago that I was really excited about at the time. I come from a line of talented seamstresses. Eenie made all of her three girls' clothes growing up and even my mom's wedding dress! My Aunt Dora Jean also made her girls' clothes and even lots of my Sunday dresses too. My mom wasn't as enthusiastic about sewing, but she's good at it if she wants to be. She made me a number of pretty legit outfits back in the day (t-shirt dresses and rompers anyone?). Anyway, I figure that sewing has to be in my blood too and don't want to be found guilty of killing the art in my family. So I was thrilled to get my first sewing machine! But then I got sewer's block. I had no clue what to make. With zero sewing experience I was pretty sure that anything I attempted was going to look like my dog chewed it, swallowed, and then coughed it back up. Ta-da! Wear this please. Uh, no thanks. So I got discouraged before I even attempted anything, and hence, the sewing machine has remained in the box ever since. Until mid October, that is.
I've never really been all that into Halloween. Even as a kid. I was painfully shy as a little girl, and you could forget me walking up to a stranger's door and asking for candy. I would have rather been told I had to throw my beloved Strawberry Shortcake dolls in the dump. I mean, I could barely muster the courage to ask my own parents if I could spend the night with a friend. So trick-or-treating was probably on my "What Hell Might Be Like" list at the time. Nonetheless, Jamie and I had some pretty awesome Halloween costumes that we would wear to the local Halloween carnival or at the very least to my Aunt Dora Jean's house. And someone in my family always made them for us. So, I've always wanted to make my kids' costumes too. Because it's fun. And while they are little, I can screw them up and they'll still wear them. So these two little adventurer's threads are my first attempt at sewing. Well, the capes anyway. Everything else was more like a craft project, although I did hand stitch the logos onto their shirts and sewed Robin's mask. But the capes I actually had to break out the sewing machine to make. And they turned out pretty darn cute!
Crash! Boom! Pow!!

Haha this is awesome Lindsay and I have to say that I am so impressed! These easily look store-bought but so much sweeter knowing they were stitched together with love! ;)
