Lessons We Learn From Spring

"Behold, the winter is past … the flowers appear on the earth; the time of the singing of birds is come" (Song of Solomon 2:11-12).


Spring surely is a very welcomed sight after the winter: the birds chirping, the flowers budding, the refreshing rain, and the warmth of the sun's rays. In all of the contrasts of spring, Father has provided us with some wonderful lessons. Let's take a moment and think briefly of them today.

A Lesson from the Birds

"Are not five sparrows sold for two farthings, and not one of them is forgotten before God? But even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not therefore: you are of more value than many sparrows" (Luke 12:6-7).

A Lesson from the Flowers

"Consider the lilies how they grow: they toil not, they spin not; and yet I say to you, that Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. If then God so clothes the grass, which is today in the field, and tomorrow is cast into the oven; how much more will He clothe you?" (Luke 12:27-29).

A Lesson from the Rain

"You visit the earth, and water it: you greatly enrich it with the river of God, which is full of water … You water the ridges abundantly … You settle the furrows, making them soft with showers: You bless the springing thereof … the little hills rejoice on every side. The pastures are clothed with flocks; the valleys also are covered over with corn; they shout for joy, they also sing" (Psalms 65:9-13).

A Lesson from the Sun

"Your Father … makes His sun to rise on the wicked and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust" (Matthew 5:45).

Spring is the lesson of Father's love, provision and care. It is the account of His faithfulness. It is the expression of His value of us.

Spring is also such a precious picture of resurrection. After the dead of winter, comes the budding life of spring, as though all of creation has been awakened.

Though one day we shall all lie down in the cold winter of death, we shall also spring forth in the very life of our Lord; all in due season.

Bask in the beauty and bounty of spring; and all of the wonderful lessons that it teaches.
